Job Description
OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Director is the OAC Directors’ right hand, supporting in planning multi-day backpacking trips, leading daily devotions, and using teachable moments to point campers to God. Responsibilities include facilitating high and low ropes courses, teaching safety, nature, and spiritual development, and demonstrating excellent leadership skills. Prior experience with teens, backpacking, and camping is essential, along with skills in topo map reading and orienteering. Lifeguard certification, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR are required; Wilderness First Responder certification is preferred.
Compensation:
Weekly salary starts at $400

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
As OAC program leader:
Supervise counselors and campers, ensuring health and safety, providing educational and fun experiences, and guiding spiritual growth
Encourage camper participation
Lead small group prayer, discussions, and devotions
Set safety and conduct standards
Engage with campers and staff to foster a positive environment
Conduct one-on-one interactions as appropriate
Collaborate on staff evaluations and camper assessments
Ensure completion of camper surveys and spiritual well-being cards
Maintain communication logs with camper parents
Model Christ-like conduct
Suggest program improvements
Assist with ropes course facilitation
As trip co-leader:
Prepare and clean up trips
Ensure group safety and well-being
Implement trip goals and instruct in wilderness skills
Assess weather, physical condition, and trip demands
Perform additional duties as needed
As a staff member:
Participate in meetings and prayer
Communicate needs to supervisors
Support fellow staff and pray regularly
Fulfill Break Day duties
Report property issues
Support spiritual formation
Exemplify Christ-like behavior
Report child abuse suspicions immediately
Perform any other duties assigned
Additional notes: All staff may be called upon to assist in camp operations and are expected to join evening programs; absences require prior approval.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 21 years old
Interest and skills in recreation, programming, and ministry
Passion for youth and youth culture
Experience backpacking in wilderness settings
Flexible, teachable, organized, and independent
Good physical condition; capable of performing essential duties
Current Wilderness First Aid, CPR, Wilderness First Responder, ARC Lifeguard, and ACCT lvl 2 or equivalent certifications
Experience in camp, outdoor education, or wilderness therapy
Of good moral character and with a personal, growing relationship with the Lord
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, and lift up to 35 lbs. Ability to backpack 10 miles with a 35-pound pack. Reasonable accommodations may be requested.
