Scientists and engineers in R&D work together to develop, test, and launch products that enhance patient care. Summary As a Principal Engineer, you will be designing and leading the material science related aspects of innovation and exploratory work, new product development, testing, and qualification for medical devices and drug products.You will work closely with multiple cross-functional organizations supporting programs intended to launch new products. What you'll be doing Applies in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in polymer science, chemistry, and engineering to optimize material (thermoplastics and thermosets) properties. With minimal guidance, schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project using various engineering and scientific techniques, procedures and criteria. This includes constructing detailed, accurate project schedules, interfacing with development groups and technical support groups. Communicates key information and recommendations to influence technical decisions and strategies in a timely manner. Defines material requirements and develops specifications in accordance with manufacturing, marketing, and customer expectations and design requirements. Devises new and innovative approaches to complex problems through adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles. May provide technical mentoring to entry level engineers and scientists. What you'll bring Minimum 8 years' experience with B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent or 6 + years with a Masters. Possess expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: polymer & drug compatibility, polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer rheology, polymer adhesion, polymer/rubber formulation, polymer coating, polymer processing, or polymer characterization. Experience utilizing material characterization tools (i.e. thermal, mechanical, microscopy, optical, rheological, various chemistry analytical (such as HPLC, GCMS, etc.) to solve materials engineering challenges with minimal assistance. Proven technical understanding of polymer science and engineering principles. Preferred 3+ years of experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industry. Ability to solve material-related problems with minimal assistance and provide technical knowledge for materials projects with substantial complexity and scope. Demonstrated ability to decompose complex problems into task lists. Strong communication skills and ability to perform within a cross-functional team environment. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $120,000 to $165,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
