Job Description

A STS Tax Experienced Manager, State and Local Taxation is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications related to their business objectives, recommending alternative courses of action, and identifying various methods of complying with tax regulations. The STS SALT Senior Manager will focus on marketing, networking, and business development within their area of expertise, recognizing potential changes in tax policy, and applying new policies to tax compliance. Additionally, they will collaborate with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide SALT expertise to clients.

Job Duties include:

1. Research: Identifying complex situations requiring research, analyzing facts, developing relationships with tax authorities, and providing research findings.
2. Tax Compliance: Conducting detailed reviews of tax returns, responding to notices, and assisting with exam support.
3. Tax Consulting: Drafting memorandums, opinions, and applying tax sub-specialties, determining tax planning processes, and managing engagements.
4. Tax Controversy: Representing clients before tax authorities on contested issues.
5. Tax-Related Software: Utilizing tax software and research databases.
6. Tax Specialization: Providing technical service on multi-state tax issues, negotiating settlements, and drafting memoranda.
7. Accounting for Income Taxes: Preparing tax accrual workpapers and understanding industry standards related to FAS 109, FIN48, and sales tax.
8. Strategy Development: Analyzing tax implications, developing strategies, and suggesting marketing approaches for client acquisition.
9. Supervisory Responsibilities: Overseeing workload, training staff, evaluating performance, and acting as a career advisor.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Bachelor's in Accounting or relevant field; Master's or J.D. preferred.
• Eight+ years of experience in state and local/multistate tax.
• Experience supervising tax professionals.
• CPA or relevant certification preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and tax research tools.
• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and teams.

Salary Range: $99,750 - $262,500 depending on location and experience.
