Min Hourly Rate $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Graphic Design Assistant student position for Extension Communications (EC) in the Division of Extension and Engagement at Oregon State University. The work location is onsite in Corvallis, Oregon. This student employee will provide high quality graphic design services under the direction of OSU Extension's Marketing Manager. The student will create educational and marketing design projects (from concept to finish) including final products and templates that represent the division and OSU Extension, in alignment with the university brand. The student employee will design print and digital materials, templates, social media graphics, infographics, promotional materials and more in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva and PowerPoint. The student employee will also support OSU Extension social media content creation and posting. Position Duties 75% Graphic design: Understand audiences and design engaging materials for different audiences Update and create templates for division employees, offices and programs, including but not limited to flyers, brochures, social media, ads, PowerPoint presentations and reports Update and create Extension statewide, county and program marketing materials Support website and e-newsletter images/graphics Create designs for promotional items, including but not limited to clothing items, stickers, banners and billboards. As needed, provide educational support to internal audience (e.g., how to use templates and co-branding). 15% Social media support: Design graphics and content for OSU Extension's main social channels, including Instagram, Facebook, X, Bluesky and YouTube Use online collaborative tools (such as Airtable and Canva) to submit social media posts for review Create social media graphics for use by division employees, offices and programs to promote seasonal content and specific campaigns or events 5% Communication and leadership: Responds promptly to emails, messages, Teams chats and phone calls Follows all OSU, division and EC rules, policies and procedures Acts professionally at all times 5% Other duties/projects as assigned: Assist with preparation for, and/or tabling at marketing events as needed Correspond with OSU Marketing Services & Solutions unit or other vendors about artwork, files and proofs May be assigned additional duties/projects related to design, multimedia and/or marketing support Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and PowerPoint Ability to learn to use software for design and collaborative work, such as Canva, AirTable and project management tools Knowledge of basic design principles (hierarchy, alignment, color, etc.) and the importance of branding Understanding of production-ready print file formatting (crop, bleed, image file size, color modes, etc.) Desire to work in a team that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion as integral to communications and marketing work Ability to communicate clearly via email, messaging tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams), web conferencing and in person Detail-oriented and organized Must be an OSU undergraduate or graduate student Preferred (Special) Qualifications Graphic design major or minor Self-starting and ability to manage time efficiently Ability to handle multiple projects at once Knowledge of OSU brand and style requirements Experience designing under brand and visual identity guidelines Experience creating social content to educate and engage viewers Experience with basic video editing OSU junior or senior level undergraduate student or a graduate student Working Conditions / Work Schedule The student worker may be required to work up to an approximate 24 hours per week.
