This position will join the support team for one of the largest libraries in the Federal Government, the National Security Research Center (NSRC). The NSRC is Los Alamos National Laboratory's classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing, and production of nuclear weapons, dating back to the first days of the Manhattan Project.

The NSRC-Digital Collections Group is looking for an enthusiastic and exceptional Library Professional to assist in leading multiple digitization projects. You will interact with customers, assess materials for digitization and determine technical requirements, help develop and provide cost estimates, train staff to digitize various media types and perform quality assessments of electronic files. You will also implement established digitization workflows and serve as a technical lead to improve those digitization processes and standards. You will assist in tracking day-to-day activities of the digitization teams and compile metrics, while working alongside team leaders to ensure priorities and requirements are being met. Other duties include serving as a subject matter expert on digitization equipment, software technologies and provide support to locate and extricate important information as one-off requests for technical customers to ensure digitized materials are discoverable and retrievable.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership
Experience in developing goals and objectives, and administering work to a team, in conjunction with the team leaders. Serves as a leader, mentor, and evaluates the work, directly and through subordinates managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines.

Technical Knowledge
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of digitization standards, metadata standards, and document and other media digitization equipment and software technologies. Knowledge of archival and library processes, such as indexing, cataloging, and organizing material for easy retrieval. Must be familiar with using one or more professional document or digital asset management systems, and one or more types of digitization equipment and software. Experience developing or updating digitization workflows and creating/updating related documentation.

Process Improvement
Experience in participating in process improvement for teams and workflows and implementing those improvements.

Customer Relations
Demonstrated experience in customer-focused communication and relations. Experience handling sensitive situations using sound and independent judgment. Support customer requests, priorities, and deadlines. Experience developing clear, concise, and informative reports, presentations, correspondence, and other written materials to customers and management.

Training/Certifications: Certified Archivists are encouraged to apply.

Education/Experience: Position requires a master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from a program accredited by the American Library Association and 8 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity and understanding of the weapons program within LANL, along with experience working on classified networks.
  • Business Processes
  • Experience with business processes such as budgeting, planning, scheduling, data collection, and analysis. Experience leading process improvements.
  • Technical Knowledge
  • Knowledge of and experience with digital preservation tools, techniques, and best practices. Knowledge of and experience with born-digital document archiving and curation tools, techniques, and best practices. Demonstrated experience with metadata standards, structures and strategy including areas such as large scale data migration and metadata mapping for interoperability across multiple systems.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.


Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
